I felt like this blog was interesting because I like when I can relate to people. I feel like girl who wrote this was brutally honest about her feelings and it made it easy for me to relate with her. as I've said before I'm really into music because I can relate to it, being able to relate to situations makes it easy for me to follow and be interested.

leggit argument?!
Back when I used to be in high school I was a HUGE slacker but somehow always managed to pull it out at last minute. I always remember my mom saying, "once you get to college your professors aren't going to care if you pass or fail." I remember so vividly thinking, then why the hell are they teaching if they don't care?!
I am finding more and more every day that she is right. I understand that professors have a purpose, go to class, share their knowledge, give assignments, grade them, and be done! But sometimes I feel like when I'm in a class the professor just ASSUMES I'm supposed to know what they are taking about. So, say I am supposed to understand, and I don't, for whatever reason. YOUR THE TEACHER, so teach me what I don't know, or don't understand, don't make me feel like a complete idiot.
Prior to coming to UNK I went to Concordia University in Seward Nebraska, a small school and a small town. I was in the journalism department where there was literally only 2 or 3 professors that taught EVERY class. I had decided maybe a month before going into college that journalism and broadcasting is what I wanted to purse, so everything was very new to me and needless to say I was treated like I was incompetent. I might not be the fastest learner ever but I try damn hard. SO I transferred because I hated it there. Come to find out maybe it was just me wanting someone to babysit me and tell me "ITS OKAY JACKI TRY BETTER NEXT TIME."
But to wrap things up, what are these professors doing teaching if they don't give a shit to help me learn. I understand I'm 20 years old and my days of hand holding are over but your educating ME for THE future, the future of millions so for gods sake help me get there so I can make a difference.
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING/READING!

Local Issues
How big of an issue is drugs on the UNK campus. Clearly its enough for UNK to be taking into consideration testing hair for drug use.
The stance I take on this issue is that it is irrelevant and un needed. It is expensive and can give false answers and an inaccurate time line.

Lowering the Drinking age in kearney? Aside from the fact that I'm unaware that you can do that by city I don't believe it would solve as many problems as you think it would. Although there are pros and cons to changing the drinking age as a whole I guess you'll never know unless you try.
Tray-less Tuesdays - My stand on this issue is a positive one, I believe this helps to save water, food and in a long shot could help against obesity. Not only do people need to be educated on what tray-less Tuesdays is but WHY we need to save water and HOW it will benefit us and the world.

Tray-less Tuesday During November and December, Chartwells will have trial period of “Tray-less Tuesday." "Tray-less" a movement to help decrease food waste, water waste, and the chemical footprint in dining halls. It has been so successful that some schools have gone completely tray-less. Please provide feedback. If feedback is positive, Chartwells will integrate “Tray-less Tuesday" into daily dining beginning January 2009. medical center editorial
rough draft ISH
Coincidence or medical negligence? On Feb 2, three residents from the Beatrice State Developmental Center all died within three weeks of each other, each patient seeking medical assistance on the same floor of the Developmental Center.
It seems clear to most that this is more than just a coincidence especially when according to the Kearney Hub, Nebraska’s chief medical officer ordered all “medically fragile” resident to be moved from the facility. This voices nothing more than worry that perhaps the weaker of the patients at the medical facility would not be able to survive in the week conditions they were providing.
The initial issue is obviously the unfortunate deaths of the three individuals but now we are forced to look at the bigger picture. Why did this happen in the first place and why did it take loosing certification and $29 million in federal funding to finally get some improvement in the conditions of the medical facility? This leads us to wonder one thing and one thing only, would there be any change had the loss not been so great?
There are certain things that can be dealt with at a much more relaxed level when not being tended to properly, such as building codes, restaurant regulation and so on. But when a medical facility is putting the lives of patients at risk, this cannot and should not be over looked. When we get to a point where not even the lives of human beings are being tended to properly one must wonder, what is next?
Although the case of this particular medical center has made an impact on not only the people effected directly but the people around them as well, it forces us to look and be more aware of the trust we put into the people taking care of us.
There should be some sort of urgency coming from not only the staff at the medical facility but Nebraska Officials.
Priority needs to be rearranged at the Beatrice State Developmental Center and it needs to start with the staff and leadership and it needs to be followed up by Nebraska Officials. Last but not least it’s important that we be more aware of cases like this that have been over looked in the past and pay more attention to cases like this that are happening right now, elsewhere. Being more aware is half the battle, taking a stand and making a difference is the other half.

editoral trouble
Due to missing class I'm unaware how I should write this editorial exactly.
I think I'm going to write about the Kearney "bridge" if you will. Although I don't know what the city has planned for it as a very rough draft I'm going to talk about what its uses are and what I think it should be turned into!

Regional issues
I think an issue is pending in Kearney is how to Make good use of the "Great Platte River Archway." With little to no research on the topic yet, I don't think the Archway is paying for itself. Meaning it is not as popular as they thought it was going to be.
- How can the city of Kearney make it more appealing
-How could the city of Kearney renovate it to bring in more people
- Should Kearney just dispose of the Archway?
I think crime rate would be interesting to look at from the past couple years or even crime rate from when school is in session to when school is out of session
-does it increase or decrease
- when/what months is crime the highest
- what crime
http://safety.fizber.com/nebraska/kearney/
Something that is always talked about when UNK is brought up is if it really is the party school it has been known to be. Another interesting topic could be if it is a party school and maybe get some statistics on how many MIPS and DUI are given out a year.

I don't know if these are worthy but it was worth a shot :)

Motivation..
By this time of the year many things are playing into the fact that I have ABSOLUTELY NO motivation to do anything except, well, sleep! It's late in the year, school seems to be dragging out, the weather is still kind of crappy and for Gods sake I'm run down.
I wouldn't call myself an A+ student by any means, I never have been, but that doesn't take away from the fact that I could be if I really wanted to. But I don't. Hell I don't even care to be a 'B' student. Why? You tell me.
My motivation dwindles more and more every day and I don't know how to make it stop. I have tried to do things to spice up my school life like buy new pencils, notebooks and folders (that's always fun) IT DIDN'T WORK, I tried getting up and eating and working out in the morning, that just made me more tired.
Could it be physiological? Well I went to the Dr. and he said he doesn't think I'm depressed at all it is just simply a lack of motivation.
Last but not least I asked my mom and of course she says "Jacki, graduating on time should be enough motivation."....thanks for nothing, MOM!

-SO HERE IS MY GAME PLAN-
And this blog is going to help me keep track and help me to be held accountable to a healthier more motivated life style.
- Every day regardless of when I have class I will be up at 9:00 eating breakfast
- I will not nap during the day (that has become a habit for me) therefore helping me to go to sleep earlier and sleep better at night
- I will go to sleep every night by 11:30, well be in bed.
- No more fast food, or eating at work.
- No more drinking soda
- Last but not least I want to work on self motivating myself, being more positive from the second I wake up until the second I go to sleep, finding positive reasons to wake up, go to class and work!

Tyra Banks
The other day I was watching The Tyra Banks show, which by the way is one of my favorite shows to watch. Anyhow the topic was "divorce parties." The show kicked off with four women that had recently been divorced for a number of reasons.
The women went on to explain why they were divorced and they got to "get rid of" something that reminded them of the marriage in a creative way ex: wedding dress, ring, marriage licence and so on.
Further more the women explained how they have struggled since the divorce and how they have not been able to bounce back from what happened.
Tyra and her producers did things for the women that fit their struggles ex: gave them money, make overs, counseling and so on.
Concluding the show they had an "expert" talk about things you needed for a divorce party ex: a cake, drink of choice and so on.
NOW, your probably wondering what my point is and I'm not really sure myself, why? Because although I'm sure getting a divorce is a very low and depressing point in ones life I can't imagine a party and destroying things from the marriage are going to help you get past the past.
Not to mention to do you think all your friends get divorced at one time? No so how are you going to have a divorce party? Get on creigs list and invite newly divorced people over? I sure as hell wouldn't want to have a divorce party with a bunch of happily married women who don't understand.
On a second note I thought it was very stereotypical that there was ONLY women on the show, as if men didn't have feelings or struggle with divorce as well. I know The Tyra Banks show is solely based around women but don't you think the women who were on the show hurting from divorced would have liked to see that men DO HURT every once and a while too?
PHEW, okay my point throughout all this "ranting" if you will, is that although a "divorce party" could serve some purpose I don't think it was worthy of a 45 min. show.
If you would like to see more, feel free I put the link below :)

may seem pointless but hear me out..
If I could pick two of my favorite things in the world it would be music and water. Which brings me to my next point, I absolutely love music, everything about it, and every single kind! The inspiration for this blog comes from the song that I just recently downloaded called Thinking of You by katy Perry. Not just this song but lyrics in general speak so loud to me. For instance you could tell me something and it may go in one ear and out the other but put in lyric form and somehow I will find a way to relate and it will stick forever. My point here is about people who sing along to lyrics but have absolutely know idea what they are singing about. I'm not saying EVERY SINGLE PERSON needs to piece apart every word in a song BUT, I believe people could use music to express themselves as much as I do if they payed attention.
